Abstract
This paper explores the hero myth as a symbolic expression of the individuation process, based on the theories of C.G. Jung and Joseph Campbell. By analyzing the concept of the "Monomyth" or "Hero's Journey," it highlights how the hero's journey represents a universal narrative found across various cultures. The hero's path, marked by a series of trials and transformations, symbolizes the libido's tension toward consciousness and the integration of unconscious aspects. Contributions from Christopher Vogler are discussed, noting his recognition of a common structure in hero myths. The paper delves into the role of the Self in the individuation process, emphasizing how narratives can serve as tools for psychological transformation. Through literary and cinematic examples, the study illustrates how the hero's journey mirrors the process of inner growth and self-realization, offering a comprehensive understanding of the hero myth as a metaphor for personal development and the quest for meaning.
